Elif Karlidag
Elif Nur KarlıdaÄŸ’s digital artwork responds to the themes explored in USELESS, challenging the impact of digitalisation and the profound sense of loneliness it often brings. Through a blend of specially composed sound and AI-generated video elements, the piece reflects on the isolation embedded within hyper-connected societies, questioning the value of productivity and the emotional voids left by an increasingly digital world.
Elif Nur KarlıdaÄŸ is a Turkish/British composer specialising in interdisciplinary works that amplify marginalised voices. Her music blends traditional and unconventional instruments, electronics, and multimedia, exploring themes of identity, marginalisation, and cultural narratives. Recent commissions include a children’s opera for English National Opera, a Philharmonia piece on orphaned children, and a Scythian-language work for the Carice Singers. She has also scored films, including Hamlet Within, featuring Ian McKellen. Holding degrees from DEU Conservatoire and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Elif is a John Clementi Collard Fellow, committed to inclusivity, social justice, and expanding the boundaries of contemporary music through innovative performance and collaboration.
